The National Certificate III, Fitness Instructor Course 2022-2023 – Exercise and Sport Science
The Male’ Fitness Academy offer a foundation course in exercise and sports science. Our program is nationally accredited and include electives in Aquatics, Exercise To Music (ETM) and Outdoor Exercise. We provide guided internship in the gym, and match theory with practice. Students are therefore able to build confidence and experience.
2022-2023 Calendar
We have courses scheduled for this year and the next year. The course is accredited by the Maldives Qualification Authority in the list of courses certified by the Maldives National Skill Development Authority (MNSDA). Successful students are awarded the National Certificate III in Fitness Instruction.

Why study Exercise & Sports Science
Fitness is a precondition for medical, physical and mental health. The Ministry of Health have announced a national physical activity policy this year.
Fitness and sports participation is also a platform for social interaction. The number of jobs requiring sports science qualifications have increased. There is a demand for school based PE Teachers, sports coaches and School Sports Supervisors. Local Councils now have jobs for Sports Development Officers. There are also jobs for Recreation and Sports Managers in the tourism industry. National Sports Associations, clubs and academies require coaches. Commercial Fitness Clubs need Fitness Instructors, Personal Trainers. and Exercise To Music Instructors (ETM).

The 15-week program
Course duration is equivalent to that of a university semester. The course is worth 75 credits and is delivered with 250 contact hours programmed over a 15-week period. Being a TVET course, we maintain a 50-50 balance between theory and practice. The National Qualification Framework recognize the course as an equivalent of an Ordinary Level Pass. An external assessment is conducted by MNSDA at the end of the program. There is a theory and practical exam at the end of the course.
The credits secured through this course counts as prerequisites for Certificate IV with which you can secure you a place in higher education institutions within the country and abroad.
Course details
Our classroom (theory) units are delivered in two separate blocks of 10-days, scheduled at the beginning and end of the program. Classroom sessions are scheduled from 4.00pm to 10pm.
Practical units are delivered in the 12-weeks window between the two blocks.
Aquatics is scheduled early morning from 6.00 to 7.00am, Sat-Mon-Wed.
Exercise to Music (ETM) is scheduled early evening 6.45 to 7.45pm, Sat-Mon-Wed.
Outdoor Exercise is scheduled in the evenings from 6.00pm and 8.00pm, Sun-Tue-Thu. . Gym or Weight Room internship is scheduled two days per week for with 4-hour per session. All students are assigned a mentor or internship manager.
