Skills for a Resilient Workforce Program - SFRW

The Skills for a Resilient Workforce program is an initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development and funded by the World Bank through the MERRY project.

Male’ Fitness Academy have been selected as a partner to deliver the National Certificate III, Fitness Instructor course.

The Skills For a Resilient Workforce program funds eligible applicants. Students are granted course fee and a monthly stipend of MVR 2,000 for the duration of the course. A number of students residing in resorts and atolls have found this program attractive.

The National Certificate III, Fitness Instructor course. This is a 15 weeks course delivered in-person at the Male’ Fitness Academy. The course involves classroom (theory) and practical (gym) internship with time time spent in the Weight Room, in Aquatic activities, Exercise to Music and Outdoor Exercise. An external assessment is conducted by the Maldives National Skill Development Authority (MNSDA) in the 16th week. The course is accredited by the Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) and considered an ordinary level pass.(registration link below)

Who is eligible for SFRW funding by the Ministry of Higher Education? Youth between the ages of 16 and 35 years are eligible to apply. Youth without a permanent job, or on probationary & temporary employment are eligible. Contractual employees are also eligible. Applicants with levels of qualification above Level III are not funded by the SFRW program. Please see the following link under "Allowance usool 25.11.2020”.

Such students have the option to finance the course themselves. This option is provided under item 7 in the application form. We conduct an interview to orient the potential student to help them make a final decision.

Fitness requirements. All students must be able to score a 7 out of 10 in our Basic Fitness Test and complete 5,000m in under 40 minutes. Students are required to exercise regularly during the course. Additional fitness assessments are conducted throughout the course to assess improvement.

The interview. All students applying for the course are required to submit their CV and attend an in person interview. Online interviews through video conference are arranged for students based in the atolls.

What are the employment opportunities? The National Certificate III, Fitness Instructor is a foundation course in exercise and sports science. As such, job opportunities present themselves as fitness instructors in local community & businesses as well as the tourism industry. The course also qualifies you for jobs as sports supervisors, coaches and as PE teachers. All local councils have the post of a sports development officer. National sports associations and clubs need this foundation for their management and coaching staff. Police and the military seek this qualification as a precondition for entry.
