Sport Science

Students learn to apply sport science to the practice of fitness. Modern science-based approach to fitness recognises the social and qualitative aspects advanced by sports psychology and wellness.

Applicants are interviewed and assessed to confirm a placement. This is also an opportunity for students to find out more about the course. Achieving a prescribed level of fitness is part of the training. Our Fitness Score is from 1 to 10, where ten is the top score. Apply here.

What we prepare you for.

We prepare you to confidently move into the new and exciting profession of Personal Training, Group Fitness Instruction (Exercise to Music) and Outdoor Fitness (Boot camps). There is a growing demand for qualified Sports Development Officers, PE teachers and sports coaches. Schools, sports associations and local councils seek these competencies.

Practising teaching skills.

A certification in Sport & Exercise science will therefore be considered a requirement for the above jobs as the demand for certification of skilled workers grow.

The tourism industry also value fitness (2019 TNA) as a skill commanding full and part-time jobs. Fitness Instruction is also a popular “side hustle” in the ever growing market for Personal Trainers,

This National Certificate III Course of 15 weeks is packed with a supervised Gym Internship. You will work as an intern at a commercial fitness club. Yoga is a recommended wellness practice and First Aid is mandatory.

Theory & Practice

The classroom sessions ground you in basic physiology, anatomy and bio-mechanics of exercise. We teach you how to apply these principles to improve skill and exercise intensity. Fitness goals must be specific and measurable.

Why and how we must exercise for good health and high levels of physical fitness, is the central theme of the course. This is a foundation course in applied sport science.

Is this course for you?

Students attracted to this TVET course are those who wish to try out fitness as a part-time profession. Some have a personal interest in fitness and sports and therefore wish to learn how to apply scientific principles to exercise. In short how to exercise properly. For this reason we see national athletes, police and military personnel doing this course.

The course is managed and assessed by the Maldives National Skill Development Authority (MNSDA) and accredited by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA).
